As we’ve already discussed with other areas of the ship, the new staterooms feel brighter and are, thanks to new lighting fixtures throughout the spaces. And as with almost every modern cruise ship, you’ll find interesting paintings scattered about, especially in the stairwells… which gives you added incentive to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Small touches abound throughout, with many being as practical as they are classy. And some, oddly enough, bring a comfortingly homey element, such as throw pillows on chairs in some of the public spaces. Now, four years later, it’s worth reflecting on how this once understated, classic vessel received a revamp that made many take a second glance.

We have always thought that this would be an adult offering with great food that would really mesh with our tastes well. The Celebrity Summit does have pools and kids’ clubs, but there’s nothing exciting for kids like water slides or rock-climbing walls. We were sailing with only adults and loved the vibe and level of entertainment on the ship.

I had lunch and breakfast here when hanging out at the pool deck, and enjoyed chicken salad, tomatoes with mozzarella, and avocado toast. You can also get smoothies and juice for an additional fee. Oceanview Cafe – You can have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night bites at the ship’s buffet restaurant, the Oceanview Café. There are lots of different cuisine types including Indian, Mexican, and Italian. Overall, I enjoyed my adult-only experience on Celebrity and would sail on them again. I’d also bring my teenage children, who often enjoy a relaxing day at the pool or exploring a port.

I think if you were sailing with young children and were looking for a very kid-friendly experience you probably would be disappointed. Our sailing also had several other performances in the main theater, including a comedian and a musical act. Both of those were a lot of fun and it was worth attending those. I always love to watch the cruise entertainment at night after dinner - especially the large-scale, Broadway-style shows that generally take place in the main theater. On the Celebrity Summit, there were two different evening shows held on nights 2 and 4. One thing that did surprise us, however, was the pool and Solarium hours.
There were other activities as well, including live band karaoke and salsa dance classes. We always had plenty of options for things to do and were never bored. Boarding the Celebrity Summit was one of the most seamless boarding experiences that I’ve had. While we arrived a few minutes early, we faced almost no lines and were on board in record time.
Pro: Food on the Celebrity Summit
All around great cruise and especially the crew and service was excellent. This six-day, five-night vacation on Celebrity Summit “cruised” by! Oceanview Café was the buffet-style dining hall on the ship. It was open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even a late-night snack.
Oceanview offers a variety of cuisines every day, from make-your-own breakfast omelets to Indian food and salads to dessert bars. However, it had great lighting, ample storage, and a spacious shower with glass doors. The app and a paper schedule list everything to do, with times and locations. Activities on our sailing included trivia, game shows, karaoke, entertainment shows, movies, comedy shows, and more. There were also several fun activities pitting the ship’s officers against guests.
Public Spaces
This last restaurant is quirky enough that it’s probably not for picky eaters. But meals here are as Instagrammable as they are experimental. The coffee shop onboard is Cafe al Bacio, which serves gelatos, pastries, and different coffees. Cabin was very spacious, incredibly clean, and very very comfortable. Zero outside noise issues even though deck 12 is a public space.
It was a bit hidden, offered incredible sunset views and irregular meal hours, and was relatively quiet. If you love the aft view, it’s a great place to watch the ship’s wake. Choices included the Rendezvous Lounge, Pool and Mast Bar, Cellar Masters, and my personal favorite, the Sunset Bar. But food packages aren’t for everyone, and the food on the ship is so good it’s definitely not necessary. The complementary options for dining included the Oceanview Café, Mast Grill, and Cosmopolitan Restaurant.
In contrast, others are massive (a stunning new ceiling treatment and all-new furniture, including several tables with high-back chairs that offer an almost cocoon-like experience). What was previously a rather average space now has the “wow” factor that causes guests to stop and take pictures the first time they enter. Now, there are groupings of chairs and seating configurations for 2, 4, 8 and even 10. This made for a great venue for games and shows in the evening, as well as activities during the day. This cruise, we opted for traditional early seating, which was a pleasure. It was nice to get back to having the same servers every night, as we had done on our earlier cruises, but more on that in Part 2. This is an area that looks completely transformed, and almost doesn’t feel like a cruise ship buffet.
The port was busy with lots of free mezcal tastings, jewelry shops, and some restaurants. The biggest downside to the app is that I don’t believe it’s super user-friendly for everyone. I can see why some people struggle with finding their way around it.
